Louis Tomlinson performed his new single with Steve Aoki, “Just Hold On” on the season finale of The X Factor.
The performance comes just days after his mother, Johanna Deakin, died of leukemia.
Sources say that Tomlinson’s relatives were in the arena supporting him along with the 1D boys, who reunited to be there with their brother.
All 4 members – Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Harry Styles – were spotted in the SSE Arena.
Niall reportedly hopped on a plane right after his appearance in New York City.
The groups founder Simon Cowell spoke directly to Tomlinson, honoring his mother.
“I’ve known you now for six years [and] what you’ve just done, and the bravery, I respect you as an artist, I respect you as a person. Your mum was so proud of you, Louis, and she was so looking forward to tonight. She’s looking down on you now. She’s so proud,” he said.
After the incredible performance, Tomlinson teared up and blew a kiss to the audience, who gave him a standing ovation.
X Factor winner Matt Terry explained that everyone was proud of Louis’s bravery.
“To stand up on the stage and sing a song he wrote dedicated to his mum – he is absolutely a complete trooper,” he told the Mirror.
Reports say it was Johanna’s dying wish for Louis to perform that single on X Factor and it seemed to motivate him to continue when no one would have faulted him for breaking down.
