Get ready to cheer!
The International Olympic Committee’s executive board just voted to recognize cheerleading as a sport.
This doesn’t mean there will be a cheerleading competition at the 2018 Olympic Games in South Korea but it does mean that the International Cheer Union will received receive yearly grants.
The period of recognition lasts three years and at any moment, the IOC can vote to have it fully recognized to be included in the games.
The IOC voted to add several other sports including skateboarding and surfing, which will appear in the 2020 games.
Their hope is that all these “youth” sports will bring in more younger eyeballs to the Olympics.
