Chance the Rapper isn’t waiting until February and the 2017 GRAMMY Awards to celebrate his first nominations. He got things started early by hosting a nomination party and popping several bottles of champagne in Chicago last night (December 6th).
Speaking to the crowd with a bottle in his hand, Chance said, “Tonight we won, because I got nominated for a GRAMMY, and I don’t plan on waiting until February to figure out if I won or lost. I decided tonight that because I’m surrounded by my best friends, by my family, that tonight was the winning night and I wanted to celebrate with you guys in Chicago rather than wait ’til I’m in Los Angeles at some GRAMMYs after party.”
He added that he already had his acceptance speech planned out. “But I wanted to say, if I do win any GRAMMYs on that night, I promise that when I get on the stage, I’m gonna say, ‘Glory be to God, I claim the victory in the name of the Lord,'” he said. “And if I don’t win, at least I got to say it right now.”
This year marks the first GRAMMY nominations for the Chicago rapper. He earned seven nods, including Best New Artist and Best Rap Album.
