No more clownin’ around!
The clown craze has made its way to Chicago!
Chicago police are investigating an incident of clowns chasing groups of students and parents Earle Elementary on the South Side.
Parents say they were walking to school at 8:45am when a man dressed as a clown ran at them. No one was injured.
Another clown sighting happened in north suburban Waukegan. Stage from Greenwood School said that three clowns taunted students during recess – one had a knife, one had a briefcase and the other a gun in “his pocket.”
Social media threats from clowns have also closed down the the University of Illinois at Chicago, Illinois State University and Eureka College near Peoria. Eureka College also canceled classes.
A man dressed as a clown was even arrested by UIC police but his getup was for a “performance art piece.” Odd timing huh?
The clown phenomenon has now spread to 26 states.
US Weekly spoke to forensic criminologist Dr. Ron Martinelli who has a theory as to why everyone is obsessed with clowns all of a sudden.
He blames gory shows like The Walking Dead and American Horror Story… we’re looking at you Twisty.
“We’re seeing an increase in the types of television programming that involve more of this scary stuff,” he explains. “We’re getting that type of thing. That’s what I think is bringing this up.”
He believes those who dress up as clowns like that they “assume a different persona… where they can have power.”
With fear of clowns at an all time high we have to wonder how this will affect Halloween?
Will less parents let their kids go out trick-or-treating. Will these idiot clowns try to pull “scary” pranks on those that are celebrating.
You know you’ll encounter tons of people in clown costumes because since this crazy began, clown costume sales have risen almost 300%!
“In the top 10, eight of them are ‘evil’ clown masks this season whereas last year, five of the top 10 were ‘evil,’” Brad Butler national Halloween costume chain Halloween Express told Eye Opener TV.
Seriously people? Let it go… it isn’t funny!
