Chicago might soon be getting a new sugary drinks tax!
Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle is considering the controversial tax for two reasons – health benefits and to pay off the $170 million budget deficit.
No word on how much money this would generate but we’re looking at an increase of between a half cent and one cent according to The Sun-Times.
Only two cities in the U.S have sugary drinks tax – Philadelphia and San Francisco.
To recap, Chicago has recently raised property taxes TWICE, increased the tax on water and sewer bills and now they are going after “pop” or “soda.”
Jeez – give it a break.
And you over there, put the coke down!
