Katy Perry Surprises Orlando Shooting Survivor on Ellen, Offers To Pay For His College

Orlando nightclub shooting survivor Tony Marrero said that Katy Perry’s music helped him heal.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Tony told the host that Perry’s new single “Rise” helped him immensely during the recovery process.

While Katy was an inspiration to him, his story had inspired her and she was waiting backstage to meet him.

When she walked onstage to surprise him, she was already in tears.

The two then embraced and cried it out together before Perry told him, “I don’t know how I’m going to get through this. Your story is so inspirational.”

The singer was also on hand to tell Marrero, an aspiring artist, that she would pay for his first year at film school.

Tony was enjoying a night at Pulse nightclub with his best friend Luis Vielma.

Luis did not survive and doctors said Tony’s survival was a miracle – he was shot 4 times in the back and once in the arm, but all shots missed his vital organs and spinal cord.
