When no one is successfully addressing the issues of violence and poverty in Chicago, you take matters into your own hands.
A local video game developer decided to examine the issues plaguing the cities South Side by creating a video game.
The game being developed in Ravenswood is titled “Culture Shock Games: We Are Chicago.” and depicts Chicago through the eyes of high school senior Aaron, who lives on the South Side with his mom and sister.
Instead of the video game encouraging violence, like many often do, this one teaches you to navigate life in a pretty rough neighborhood.
Scenes include things that people living there encounter daily – threat by gun in the school hallway, struggles of finding a job, family dinners interrupted by gunfire.
Portions of the games proceeds will go to groups helping South and West Siders.
A Twitter post revealed the game will previewed at this weekend’s Indie Mega Booth expo in Seattle.
