Beyonce stole the show at last night’s VMAs but her performance was a lot more important than many may have realized.
In fact, part of Beyonce’s performance was a protest against police brutality.
Bey arrived to the VMAs pre-show with her “whole squad,” which consisted of mothers of gun violence victims Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Oscar Grant, and Trayvon Martin.
The moms are often referred to as “the Mothers of the Movement” and are even featured in Bey’s Lemonade album holding pictures of their sons.
During her symbolic performance, Bey’s dancers were dressed as angels.
As red lights took over the stage, each “angel” was shot down before Beyonce was ultimately taken by the darkness.
