Naya Rivera is opening up about the not so gleeful moments during Glee in her new memoir “Sorry not Sorry.”
The book is filled with light memories of her young adult years before it touches upon more sensitive subjects like battling anorexia and having an abortion.
“By the time I was a sophomore, I started feeling that what had begun as a game had maybe gone too far. I just avoided food at all costs,” she said. “If my mom had packed a lunch for me, I’d either trash it or find some excuse to give it away.”
Rivera also admitted that she had an abortion back in 2010 with actor Ryan Dorsey, just a couple of weeks after they broke up so she could focus on her career.
She explains that instead of telling Dorsey, she went to the doctor and terminated the pregnancy during a day off from filming her hit TV show.
“It was very scary to open up about everything,” says Rivera. “It’s not something a lot of people talk about, but I think they should. I know some people might read it and say, ‘What the Hell?’ But I hope someone out there gets something out of it.”
Rivera married Dorsey in 2014 and has an 11-month-old son with him.
She hopes by opening up, her son Josey will one day have “a better perspective on the issues women face.”
