Good news ladies – your period just got a little bit better.
Gov. Bruce Rauner just signed a law that puts an end to sales tax on feminine hygiene products.
*TAMPON CONFETTI PARTY*
Previously, aside from dealing with horrible cramps, headaches and mood changes, women also had to pay a tax on things like pads and tampons… things they HAD no choice but to buy.
“This is just the start of a conversation about the unfair ‘pink taxes’ women face as they buy products priced higher than similar ones marketed to men, or in this case, as they have to spend on products that men don’t,” said Illinois state Sen. Melinda Bush in a quote to the Tribune.
The no tax law makes Illinois the third state behind New York and Connecticut to get rid of the tax.
The law goes into effect January 1st which means, next year when you go to buy your monthly care package, you’ll be avoiding a 10.25 percent city sales tax. Heck, you might even have some extra money for that muffin you’ve been eyeing.
About bloody time!
