The Super Bowl Halftime show is a big deal and a lot of really incredible performers have put on amazing performances.
Come Feb 5th, we’ll be able to include Lady Gaga on that list!
Until then, here’s a list of the best Super Bowl Halftime Show performances to date!
Michael Jackson in 1993
The King of Pop took over the stage in 1993 moonwalking and performing hits like “Billie Jean” and “Black of White.” He closed the set surrounded by children and performing “Heal the World.”
Aerosmith, *NSYNC, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, Nelly in 2001!
Yes, that does sound like the randomest lineup of people and yes, it did work actually! In 2001, the hip hop, pop and rock world came together for a fun-filled Super Bowl show that has yet to repeat itself. *NSYNC performed hits like “Bye Bye Bye” and “It’s Gunna Be Me,” while Aerosmith performed classics “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” and “Walk This Way,” which included every artist! Plus, Britney and Justin were dating at the time and it was adorable.
Beyonce in 2013
Queen B always SLAYS and it was no different when she took the stage in 2013! She sang a medley of songs including hits “Halo” and “Single Ladies.” Fans were also eagerly awaiting a rumored Destiny’s Child reunion, which was brief and incredible. Beyonce’s performance drew in 110 million views – which was the second-most watched show in history!
Janet Jackson in 2004
Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake made headlines for their Super Bowl Halftime performance in 2004, but they weren’t all good. During JT’s performance of “Rock Your Body” he pulled off Janet’s shirt revealing her bare breast. The event was dubbed “Nipplegate,” and well, it wasn’t pretty. But it was definitely memorable. No one even remembers that Jessica Simpson, Nelly, P. Diddy and Kid Rock also performed at this show!
U2 in 2002
U2 used their performance as a tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. As the Edge played the guitar, victims’ names were dislayed on a backdrop. Leave it to U2 to put together the most moving Super Bowl halftime show of all time.
Bruno Mars in 2014
I wasn’t too excited to see Bruno Mar’s take the stage but he completely blew me away by performing an energetic and entertaining show filled with ihts like “Locked Out of Heaven” and ” Just The Way You Are.” And it got super wild when the Red Hot Chili Peppers joined him on stage. Bruno beat out Beyonce’s viewers by 5.3 million!
Paul McCartney in 2005
Paul was the networks safe choice after the fiasco with Janet and Justin Timberlake, but by no means was he a bad one. McCartney played his greatest hits including “Get Back,” “Live and Let Die” and “Hey Jude.”
