The MTV Video Music Awards are taking place this Sunday.
I remember watching them back in the 00’s when it always meant that summer was over and school was just around the corner.
But for this #TBT, let’s rewind to the year 2000 and check out what happened at the VMA’s 16-years ago! Who performed? Who was a big winner? And what did they wear?!
Many Moore was a teen sensation at the time with her single, “I Want To Be With You.”
The 2000 VMA’s were Aaliyah’s last appearance at the awards show before her death on August 2001. She won her two and only VMA’s that night!
The girls of Destiny’s Child were still very much together, but lost out to Limp Bizkit for “Best Group Video.”
The moment Eminem took over the world also occurred at these awards.
Eminem opened up the show with an iconic performance of “The Way I Am/ The Real Slim Shady” with an army of “Slim Shady’s”.
He also took home awards for Video of The Year, Best Male Video and Best Rap Video.
Lil Kim attended still looking like this:
Pink was the definition of her name with her pink, spikey hair.
One Direction? Who is that! It was all about ‘N Sync baby!
The boys took home awards for Best Pop Video, Best Choreography in a Video, and Viewers Choice.
They also took the stage with a remix of This I Promise You, Bye Bye Bye, and It’s Gunna Be Me. It was the era of technology so they were super cool with those dancing TV’s!
Jennifer Lopez was still JLo from the block and dating P-Diddy… arguably one of her best relationships.
Christina Aguilera joined in on the whole “show your midriff” trend and rocked it!
She also surprised the crowd by performing ‘Come On Over Baby’ with Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst.
And, she joined Britney Spears, her rival at the time, to introduce the one and only Whitney Houston!
Britney performed a sexy version of her hits “Satisfaction” and “Oops I Did It Again” in this barely-there, nude outfit:
And the other boy band of the time (other than BSB) made an appearance.
Look at how young the boys of O-Town are!
That’s it folks. A recap of the VMA’s from 16 years ago.
Tune in Sunday for all the wild moments!
