Lady Gaga let her LGBT-friendly “Born This Way” message do all the talking when she turned down a big offer from the Republican Party.

According to conservative newspaper The Washington Examiner, Gaga turned down $1 million to perform during last summer’s Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.

Her slight to the GOP was revealed in a lawsuit filed by the Republican nonprofit fundraising organization American Action Network, against Cater America LLC, an event production company that was hired to stage entertainment for the convention. The suit is over money lost in part when a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert was canceled due to emergency weather in the state.

The court documents revealed that Rob Jennings, the head of Cater America, was asked to give Mother Monster an offer she couldn’t refuse. He was asked to coerce her into playing by saying that she would be performing at an event “honoring women who run for public office.”

When that didn’t work, AAN’s Director of Development, Pete Meachum asked Jennings to sweeten the deal by telling Gaga that “$150,000 will go towards a domestic violence shelter.” He hoped the idea of playing for charity would coerce her to play. It didn’t.
