Former Contestants Suing American Idol

They had the opportunity to become the next American Idol and didn’t. So what did they do after the show? Apparently sue them!

Say what?!

The following former contestants: Corey Clark (Season 2), Jaered Andrews (Season 2), Donnie Williams (Season 3), Terrell Brittenum (Season 5), Derrell Brittenum (Season 5), Thomas Daniels (Season 6), Akron Watson (Season 6), Ju’Not Joyner (Season 8) and Chris Golightly (Season 9) have all lawyered up claiming that the producers of the show FORCED them off because of their race.

Uh, American Idol WINNER Ruben Studdard? American Idol WINNER Fantasia Barrino? American Idol WINNER Jordan Sparks? Hello?!

If I remember correctly, Corey Clark got forced to leave because he lied about a pending criminal record (which was grounds for immediate termination and it was in the contract he knowingly signed)

I get that after a contestant is booted off and they aren’t in the Top 10 (American Idol tour) they essentially fall off the map and get no more press and then could become desperate and would do anything to get back…but sue this massive television show?

Talk about burning a bridge!

Here’s what Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe had to say:

We treat everybody the same… no matter the race, religion or sex. I think we’ve always had a fantastic share of talent from contestants both black and white… I don’t think I’ve ever seen racism at the show.

Do you think this “lawsuit” has any ground to stand on?
What advice would you give to the contestants that are suing?
