Months after the release of his highly anticipated second studio album, Kaleidoscope Dream, R&B singer-guitarist Miguel has a lot to be thankful for. His single “Adorn” currently holds the #3 spot on Billboard’s Top Hip-Hop and R&B Songs chart after 30 weeks. He stopped by B96/Chicago to discuss the success of his new record, his musical influences and his lifestyle with Stylz and Roman.

Miguel has previously named the Bee Gees and Hall & Oates among others as a golden era of R&B and some of his influences growing up, but did he set out to make this kind of music?

“I think my first album All I Want Is You is more in that vein, where it’s all romance based,” Miguel explained. “This album; it’s there, but it’s not as pertinent to the entire project. I think more importantly  Kaleidoscope Dream, my sophomore album, is more about my lifestyle.”

People are still discovering Miguel as an artist, and he’s glad that Kaleidoscope Dream is more the introduction. “I feel like I’m introducing myself for the first time. I had so much to do with this project, writing the songs, and I also produced ‘Adorn.’ If I didn’t priduce it, I played on it. All of the guitar you hear on the album is mostly me playing,” Miguel explained.

The entire world will be seeing a lot more of Miguel when he tours in spring 2013 as the opening act for Alicia Keys. While Alicia recently hosted a YouTube live stream/Google+ Hangout session, she said to Miguel, “Miguel is one of the flyest songwriters. The way you piece ideas and concepts and thoughts, you are really special.”
