Long before he revealed his songwriting chops, Asher Monroe took the stage as an actor. At a young age he learned what it was like to be onstage in productions like Beauty and the Beast and his starring role in a remake of Fame. In an interview with CBS LocalAsher explained how these roles helped transform him into the singer he is today and had an impact on his music career.

“Having that experience under my belt I think has definitely helped me,” he said. “Performing in front of thousands every night since I was six or seven-years-old, it helps with my confidence. It helps with just not worrying about so much who’s out there because I think a lot of times people can get freaked out by seeing all these people.”

So is there a major shift from the acting stage to the music stage?

“To me it’s a different feeling. I guess I zone out sometimes when I’m onstage,” he confessed. “I think that’s a good thing, especially with my music, I try to just get in my own zone and not pay attention to all the people that are staring at me.”

At the end of the day, Asher says acting has definitely helped his transition.

“It’s a totally different field but there are a lot of qualities within both that I think can help each other.”
