Mariah Carey’s Got A New Gig, Song and Award

Yep, Mariah Carey’s the new American Idol judge and she’s speaking out about her decision.

“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol,” she said in a statement. “I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”

But that’s not the only thing, Mariah’s got going on.

The singer is pretty excited about her new song and took to Twitter to make the big announcement.

So I can finally announce to you that my new single is coming out early August! It's called TRIUMPHANT (Get 'Em) ft. Rick Ross & Meek Mill.

Mariah also suggested fans listen closely when it finally hits the airwaves:

It was also announced that Mariah will be honored with the Icon Award at the BMI Urban Awards on September 7 in Beverly Hills. Over the course of her nearly 20 year career, Mariah has scored more number one singles than any other solo artist in history and comes in second only to The Beatles for the all-time record. She will be honored alongside a diverse group of artists including Dolly Parton, The Jacksons and The Bee Gees.

And of course, Mariah is also now a member of the American Idol family. The singer, who signed a contract for a reported $18 million, which will make her the highest earning judge on any music competition show. J.Lo was making $12 million, while Britney Spears is making $16 million for The X Factor.

Since the announcement yesterday, Mariah’s also earned the support of many, including an Idol champ.
